A forklift, often referred to as an industrial lift truck, is a versatile and essential material handling machine designed for the efficient movement of heavy loads within warehouses, construction sites, and industrial facilities. These machines come in various sizes and capacities, and their primary function is to lift, transport, and stack materials, such as pallets, crates, and heavy items.
Forklifts are powered by either electric, gas, or diesel engines, with electric forklifts being favoured for indoor applications due to their zero emissions and lower noise levels. They are equipped with a pair of forks that can be raised and lowered, making it easy to pick up and deposit materials at different heights and locations.
The versatility of forklifts is further enhanced by a range of attachments and configurations, allowing them to handle specialised tasks like handling drums, moving large rolls of paper, and even acting as a snowplow or scoop. Forklifts are known for their efficiency, safety features, and manoeuvrability, making them invaluable in the logistics and material handling industry, where they play a critical role in optimising productivity and ensuring the safe and organised movement of goods.

Forklifts are primarily employed for moving and lifting heavy construction materials, such as bricks, concrete blocks, steel beams, lumber, and pallets of construction supplies.
Forklifts with specialised attachments, like a forklift-mounted auger or trencher, are used for digging holes, trenches, and excavations for tasks like foundation work.
Forklifts are used to load and unload trucks, trailers, and containers, making it easier to transfer materials to and from construction sites in a timely manner.
